Personal Reflection

Overboard!

Have you seen the movie Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kirk Russell? It is a 1987 American romantic comedy film, directed by Garry Marshall, and (don’t judge me) I know every line in the movie.

It’s just such a sweet love story with genuine charm, wit and warm energy. At one point in the movie, Kirk explains to Goldie about an old folk story where two star struck lovers jumped into the ocean cove to reunite. At the very end of the movie, when Goldie is on one boat and Kirk is chasing her on another boat, they realize they are truly in love. Looking across the water at each other they declare their love, they both jump in the water and swim to each other.

It doesn’t get much better than that.

Except it does. Jesus loves you so much that He went ‘overboard’ for you by dying on the cross, shedding His blood so that He can make you really alive in this life and life in eternity.

He is looking at you across the chasm of space and yearning for you to jump in life with Him!

And that’s my Valentine message to you! Yes, we still need to organize, get rid of clutter and make our lives better but…unless we first open our hearts and go overboard for Jesus, nothing else we do will matter that much. Jesus is our life and our future.

May you have a blessed Valentine’s Day knowing how much you are loved!

For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are – high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean – nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us. Romans 8:38-40 TLB

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. John 3:16 TLB

And walk in love, just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Ephesians 5:2
